We remain in a post-pandemic virtual world.
Many of our partners have grown accustomed to working with the same excellent interpreter through our LanguageLine(R) OnSiteSM solution. These interpreters have become extensions of their teams, and our clients are reluctant to give up those relationships. We are frequently asked by our clients if they can continue to work with these same interpreters virtually via video.
The answer is yes.
LanguageLine Virtual Onsite Interpreting (VOSI) allows our clients to access the elite professional linguists who have become extensions of their teams.
LanguageLine clients can book a VOSI session with an onsite interpreter the same way they would a traditional onsite appointment. The difference is that VOSI sessions are conducted via the client’s preferred video-conferencing platform.
Different from Video Remote Interpreting
VOSI is distinct from video remote interpreting (VRI), which is available on-demand. With VRI, the client presses a button and within seconds, one of LanguageLine’s 35,000-plus linguists arrives on-screen, ready to participate in the conversation in the language you selected. These calls are conducted within the LanguageLine Video platform.
VOSI conversations are scheduled in advance and are conducted via the video platform of the client’s choice. They enable the client to use the same interpreter again and again.
VOSI is available in more than 60 spoken languages, as well as American Sign Language. We support more than a dozen of the most common video-conferencing platforms, including Zoom, GoToMeeting, WebEx, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Skype, BlueJeans, VSee, and Vidyo.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why Virtual Onsite Interpreting (VOSI)? New working arrangements have led to increased use of video to limit on-premise interactions. VOSI allows our clients to maintain their relationships with onsite interpreters who they have come to regard as extensions of their in-house teams.
Who are the interpreters? Virtual onsite interpreters are the same highly trained LanguageLine interpreters used for traditional onsite assignments. Clients can request their preferred interpreters to be used for virtual onsite assignments.
Are there limits to when virtual appointments may be conducted? No. Just as with traditional onsite appointments, VOSI appointments can be scheduled for any time of day, night, or weekend – even holidays.
You say it’s a scheduled service. How much notice does LanguageLine need? As with any onsite appointment, we encourage clients to schedule as far in advance as possible. In most cases, we can accommodate short-notice (next-day, same-day) requests, but they are far more difficult to fulfill. Please see “how to schedule” details below.
How do clients schedule an appointment? Please note that this is a scheduled service and not on-demand. Clients should follow this protocol to schedule VOSI appointments:
Clients must email requests to firstname.lastname@example.org
- In addition to providing the same appointment details as required for “physically” onsite requests, clients must also include a link to the scheduled video session.
- Email requests are monitored Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. ET.
